Overview

The IBR Cylinder 4 Cooling Mod is a hose kit designed to increase cooling to the #4 cylinder on Subaru EJ series engines. It connects to a factory-plugged port on the back of the left-hand side of the motor.

This kit includes 10 inches of Gates Engine Coolant Hose, a 10 AN 45 Degree Push To Connect Fitting, a 10 AN to Metric Straight Thread Adapter, an aluminum crush washer, a 304 stainless steel 5/8” barbed tee, and four stainless steel hose clamps. A 12mm Allen socket with a 1/2” square drive is required for installation.

The IBR Cylinder 4 Cooling Mod is engineered to enhance thermal management for the #4 cylinder in Subaru EJ series engines, a known heat-sensitive area. This modification involves tapping into a port that is factory-sealed with a plug on the rear of the engine's left side, rerouting coolant flow to improve thermal distribution. It features 10 inches of Gates Engine Coolant Hose, known for its resistance to heat and pressure. The fittings include a 10 AN 45-degree push-to-connect fitting and a 10 AN to Metric Straight Thread Adapter, ensuring secure and leak-free connections. An aluminum crush washer is provided for the metric straight thread connection, and a robust 304 stainless steel 5/8" barbed tee serves as the central connection point. The assembly is secured with four stainless steel hose clamps. Installation of the IBR Cylinder 4 Cooling Mod requires specific tools, including a 12mm Allen socket with a 1/2" square drive. Proper installation ensures optimal coolant flow and addresses potential overheating issues in the critical #4 cylinder. This cooling modification is compatible with a wide range of Subaru models, specifically the WRX from 2002-2014 and the STI from 2004-2021.
