Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor

The S&S Cycle 55-1014 is a cylinder head temperature sensor, designed for street applications and compatible with Twin Cam and Super Sidewinder Plus engines. This sensor is a crucial component of the S&S Intelligent Spark Technology (IST) ignition system, working alongside crank position, cam position (if present), MAP, and a unique knock sensor to monitor engine conditions. The IST system leverages these sensors to detect detonation or knock as the engine runs. The knock sensor, in particular, enables the ECU to automatically adjust ignition timing, thereby eliminating knock and optimizing both power output and fuel economy. The sensor itself is made in the U.S.A. It is important to note that this sensor is not for fuel-injected models. Additionally, it is not recommended for kick start applications unless a cam position sensor is utilized, as engines employing crankshaft position sensors may be difficult to kick start. The IST ignition module itself requires a separately purchased installation kit and an optional high-output coil is also available. S&S IST ignition modules manufactured after 10-1-03 (serial number beginning with 'E' or higher) contain software for the Guardian Diagnostic System and are compatible with most applications, with specific notes for 2004-05 models based on manufacturing date.
