The Ford D0VE-C heads are performance components designed for the 429/460 engine family, offering potential for significant upgrades. While their stock configuration is described as inadequate for optimal performance, they can be significantly improved with modifications. With appropriate porting, including modifications to the valve bowls to accommodate larger valves, and the addition of hard valve seats on the exhausts, these heads can become a strong option for a 500+ cubic inch street engine. They are particularly noted as a good fit for heavy vehicles. For those aiming for specific performance targets, such as around 575 HP and matching torque for a solid street car in an older LTD, well-prepped and ported D0VE heads are considered capable of achieving these goals. Users have reported impressive results with ported D0VE heads, achieving excellent performance for street use. While it is possible to achieve high horsepower figures, such as over 700 hp with a larger engine, the focus for street applications is on a well-planned engine combination. The weight difference compared to aluminum heads is approximately 55 lbs, which some users consider not worth the additional cost of aluminum heads if the primary goal is achieving the targeted power levels.
