DD7 Direct Drive 7-Speed Transmission

The Baker Drivetrain DD7 Direct Drive 7-Speed Complete Transmission is a direct slide-in upgrade for 2006-2016 big twin 6-speed motorcycles, transforming them into 7-speed systems. Instead of a deep overdrive, the DD7 features a shortened first gear and tightened subsequent gears, resulting in smooth, crisp acceleration from 1st through 4th gear, followed by efficient cruising in 5th-7th gears. This design eliminates RPM drops between gears and prevents lugging the motorcycle from a stop. The internal components have been significantly improved for smoother shifting and enhanced durability. The mainshaft mass is reduced by incorporating only 1st gear onto the shaft, unlike stock units where 1st-4th gears are integrated. A Linear Detent replaces the stock detent arm and spring, decreasing friction and increasing smoothness, complemented by an all-new shift drum design. The dog teeth on the gears have been tightened to reduce the clacking noise common in factory 6-speed transmissions. Construction includes a billet bearing door with 28% wider bearings, steel bearing retainer plates, and full-width gears for improved strength. Helical gears are used in 1st and 4th-7th for a quieter ride, while 2nd and 3rd gears utilize diamond ground spur gears to withstand peak torque. Installation is a direct slide-in process with no case modifications required, and it clears all exhaust systems and works with aftermarket clutches. The DD7 includes a BAKER shifter pawl, main drive gear bearing and seal, and necessary gaskets. It is compatible with aftermarket hydraulic side covers and stock Screamin Eagle versions. Specific fitment includes 2007-2016 Softail, 2007-2016 Touring (FL, FLT, FLH), and 2006-2016 Dyna models. Note that on Throttle-By-Wire bikes with stock ECMs, cruise control will only function in 7th gear, and the redline will be 5200 RPM. Using aftermarket tuners can restore stock cruise control functionality across all gears. The 6th gear indicator light will illuminate for 7th gear engagement on all models. The transmission requires 26-28 fl-oz of 75W-140 GL-5 rated synthetic gear oil and comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
