Differential Upgrade

The Wavetrac limited slip front differential utilizes a patent-pending design with converging/diverging wave profiles on its side gears. These profiles climb each other during relative rotation, increasing the normal force and thus the bias ratio as a function of load. This adjustment happens automatically only when necessary, quickly and seamlessly reverting to its nominal bias ratio to maintain optimal drivability and performance, effectively providing two differentials in one. The internal gear tooth forms are optimized for strength and improved oil film retention, while the gear package is smaller and more durable. The side gear/axle interface has been designed with maximum material thickness for critical load-bearing areas. The differential bodies are machined from case-hardened steel billet, and all internal gears are made from high-strength 9310 alloy steel, with ARP fasteners used for assembly. The Wavetrac differential's behavior can be fine-tuned using interchangeable friction plates, sold separately. It comes standard with carbon-fiber plates for all-around performance. Additional plates with varying friction coefficients allow for precise tuning of the differential's response based on applied torque load. The applied torque load generates an axial force that acts as a normal force on the friction plate, providing resistive torque based on the coefficient of friction. This differential is specifically designed for the 02M gearbox and fits the Mk4 Golf R32 (2004) 3.2L VR6 and the Mk1 Audi TT Quattro models with 1.8T (180HP and 225HP) and 3.2L VR6 engines.
