Direct Ignition Coil

The Bosch Direct Ignition Coil (0221504470) is an Original Equipment (OE) replacement for your vehicle's ignition system. It directly supplies the power needed for your spark plugs to generate the spark, crucial for engine combustion. In a coil-on-plug setup, each spark plug has its own ignition coil, eliminating the need for spark plug wires. Symptoms of a failing ignition coil can include misfires, reduced power output, and decreased fuel efficiency. It offers excellent mechanical stability and corrosion protection, contributing to its longevity. The product is made in Slovakia. Installation notes indicate that this newer Bosch coil design may not produce an audible "snap" when connecting to the spark plug. Instead, it uses a contact spring that grips the spark plug. It is recommended to use dielectric grease when installing to protect the spark plug boot and ensure a watertight and dust-tight seal. Some users have noted that the fit can feel loose initially, requiring a twist and push to seat properly. Additionally, the retaining clip on the wiring connection may not always stay put or lock securely. This ignition coil is compatible with a range of BMW models, including the M6 (2012-2016, up to 11/2015 for some 2016 models), 550i GT (2013-2015), 550i GT xDrive (2013-2016, up to 11/2015 for 2016 models), 650i (2013-2014), and others such as the 128i, 135i, 323i, 325i, 328i, 330i, 335i, 525i, 528i, 530i, 535i, 740i, 750i, 760i, M5, X3, X5, X6, and Z4. However, some users have reported fitment issues with specific models, such as the April 2006 330xi and the 2006 330xi, stating that the coils did not seat properly or fit their valve cover. It is also noted that the retaining clip on the newer units may crack.
