Double Triangulated 4 Link Suspension Mounting System for Jeep YJ/TJ/LJ Motobilt

Double triangulated 4 link suspension mount system for Jeep YJ, TJ, and LJ. Designed for proper geometry, low center of gravity, and 1 ton axle builds. Builders who start laying out a double triangulated 4 link run into the same issue right away. Getting link geometry right takes time, measuring, and usually some trial and error. Vertical separation, link angles, and frame mounting points all control how the suspension works. The factory Jeep YJ, TJ, and LJ frame was never designed for this type of setup, which is why most builders end up reworking mounts multiple times to get it right. This system was designed to eliminate that process and give you a proven foundation for a strong Jeep YJ / TJ / LJ double triangulated 4 link suspension system. Mounting locations are set to provide proper vertical separation while allowing straight upper and lower links. That keeps fabrication simple and avoids weak points from unnecessary bends. The layout also solves common packaging problems inside the chassis. There is built in clearance for engine oil pans, aftermarket engines, transfer cases, and driveshafts. Everything is positioned to work together so you are not fighting for space during the build. Serviceability was a priority. The one piece skid plate is removable and countersunk for a smooth bottom that will slide over obstacles instead of hanging up. Once removed, you have direct access to the transmission and transfer case. The front transmission crossmember and X bracing can also be removed independently, allowing full drivetrain access without tearing the entire system apart. Another common issue with 4 link systems is losing lower link mounting when removing the transmission crossmember. This system includes temporary bolt in brackets so the vehicle can still be moved around the shop during service work. All mounting points are built from 1/4 inch steel with 5/8 inch holes and a 2-5/8 inch inner width. This allows you to run common joint sizes with high misalignment spacers. 1.25 inch heims fit best. Johnny joints can be used by trimming the upper portion of the lower link mounts for clearance. This system is designed to work with the factory frame front and rear, but it integrates well with larger chassis builds. It pairs directly with Motobilt front half and back half systems, allowing you to build a complete chassis around it. The entire system maintains factory skid height so you are not giving up ground clearance. If you are building a low center of gravity Jeep on 1 ton axles and 40 inch tires or larger, this layout gives you the suspension packaging to make it work both on the trail and on the road. One important note is exhaust clearance. The upper links are placed in a way to allow exhaust to clear on the non driveshaft side. On our build we routed the exhaust from the header on the driveshaft side around the front of the engine. On the opposite side we modified an off the shelf headed to allow the exhaust to exit over the upper link mount where it then mated back up in Y connection. If you are installing a new engine or building engine mounts we recommend doing so after the suspension is installed so that you can better align the exhaust location where you want it. The underside of the entire suspension sits at the same height as the factory skid, meaning zero loss of ground clearance.
