Drag Racing Upper Control Arms

The Global West Suspension TLC-71 is a specialized set of drag racing upper control arms engineered for 1970-1981 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird F-body vehicles, along with 1975-1979 Chevrolet Nova models. A key feature is the revised geometry that reduces bump steer, a condition where the wheels turn unintentionally as the vehicle's front end rises, leading to tire scrub and instability. The TLC-71 arms also incorporate an additional 6 degrees of positive caster. This enhancement is crucial for achieving straight-line stability and minimizing wandering at high speeds, while also simplifying the process of setting camber. Construction involves using chromoly steel for the control arms, which contributes to an 8-pound weight reduction for the front end. The cross-shafts are made from billet aluminum, protected by steel sleeves to prevent them from loosening when subjected to alignment shims, frame bolts, and nuts. The control arms are equipped with low-friction Delrin type bushings, known for their ability to handle extreme loads with zero deflection and minimal fore and aft movement. Grease fittings are included for maintaining proper lubrication of the bushings with synthetic grease. Additionally, these control arms feature integrated bump stops to prevent ball joint over-travel and protect the upper ball joint from damage. For applications requiring limited front-end travel, the bump stops can be removed and replaced with a limiter, such as Global West's Drag Race Bump Stop Limiter (part# TLC-1100).
