Dual Mass Flywheel

The Luk 21207640733 is a dual mass flywheel engineered for BMW vehicles equipped with manual transmissions. This critical component is mounted to the rear of the engine's crankshaft and plays a dual role: enabling the transfer of power from the engine to the transmission and assisting in the rotational balancing of the engine. Additionally, the flywheel features a toothed outer ring gear that engages with the starter motor to initiate the engine's rotation for starting. Functioning in unison with the vehicle's clutch assembly, the flywheel is central to the operation of the drivetrain. When the clutch is engaged, the flywheel secures the clutch disc, synchronizing the rotational speed of the transmission shaft with that of the engine. Conversely, when the clutch is disengaged, the clutch disc is released, allowing for seamless gear changes. The continuous engagement and disengagement cycles between the clutch disc and flywheel can lead to wear and surface glazing.
