The Elgin Camshaft E-1220-P is a hydraulic flat tappet camshaft engineered for Ford 429 to 460 cubic inch engines manufactured between 1968 and 1999. This camshaft is designed to enhance engine performance within a 2000 to 4800 RPM range, offering a good balance for street performance applications. Key specifications for the E-1220-P include a 0.509-inch lift for both intake and exhaust valves. The advertised durations are 278 degrees for the intake and 290 degrees for the exhaust. At 0.050 inches lift, the duration is 218 degrees for both intake and exhaust. The camshaft features a 114-degree lobe separation angle and a 109-degree intake centerline, contributing to its mild idle and strong overall power and torque characteristics. The cam gear attachment is a simple bolt-on design. This camshaft is constructed from cast iron and is intended for street performance use. It requires aftermarket valve springs, specifically needing 110 lbs of seat pressure and 280 lbs of open pressure. For installation, it is recommended to use an iron or composite distributor gear.
