The BMW Genuine Parts 11377524879 is an Original Equipment (OE) quality eccentric shaft sensor, manufactured in France. The Valvetronic system utilizes an eccentric shaft positioned above the intake valve. An arm connected to the intake camshaft actuates the valve, with the eccentric shaft's position dictating the extent of valve lift. The engine's computer (DME) relies on accurate feedback from the eccentric shaft sensor to precisely control this system. Failures in the Valvetronic system, particularly concerning the eccentric shaft sensor, can stem from oil damage within the sensor, leading to faulty readings. Symptoms of a failing sensor may include difficulty starting in cold weather, excessive fuel consumption, loss of power, rough idle, and illuminated check engine lights. This VDO 11377524879 sensor is a direct OE replacement. When replacing the sensor, it is recommended to also procure a new sensor gasket, a valve cover gasket set, and an eccentric shaft actuator seal. Please note that one customer review indicated the part would not fit an N52 engine and suggested it might be for Citroen, Mini, or Fiat vehicles, though other sources confirm fitment for various BMW N52 engines.
