The new Subaru OEM EJ255 short block engine (part #10103AC880) is a brand-new, genuine OEM fully assembled short block. It is built to the same factory tolerances as when it left Subaru's production line, making it a clean and reliable starting point for any rebuild or performance build on the EJ25 platform. Contrary to common misconceptions, an OEM EJ25 short block can safely handle up to 400 wheel horsepower and 480 brake horsepower with proper maintenance and a solid tune. Crawford Performance emphasizes that the OEM EJ255 short block is not inherently the weak link in Subaru engines. Their 30 years of testing have shown that improper tuning, neglected maintenance, and mismatched supporting modifications are the primary causes of engine failure. Starting with a genuine OEM block and building it correctly is recommended. This EJ255 short block is distinct from the EJ257, which is the STI-specific block with a larger bore and higher-output internals used in WRX STI models. The EJ255 is the turbocharged block found in Subaru WRX (2002–2014), and select Forester XT, Legacy GT, and Outback XT models.
