The Pierburg water pump serves as a crucial replacement component for the electric cooling system in various BMW models. By continuously circulating a mixture of water and coolant, it ensures the engine remains within its target operating temperature, preventing the system from overheating. When these electric pumps fail, newer BMW vehicles may enter a restricted limp home mode to protect the engine. As an original equipment manufacturer, Pierburg produces these units to meet strict factory specifications for performance and longevity. Note that this pump is not compatible with N54, N55, B48, or N13 engines. Installation of this electric water pump requires careful attention to the surrounding cooling system components. It is strongly recommended to replace connecting hoses, the thermostat, and any necessary seals or hardware during the installation process. Specifically, installation requires three additional mounting bolts (OEM part number 11517602125), which are typically sold separately. Because of the complex location of the water pump on many BMW engine configurations, professional installation is recommended to ensure all seals and hoses are properly seated and that the system is correctly bled of air. Always verify your specific OEM part number against your vehicle's build to ensure exact compatibility.
