EMU Black Engine Management System

Building upon the proven design of its predecessor, the EMU, the EMU Black integrates substantial hardware and software enhancements derived from years of data collection. At its core, the EMU Black provides comprehensive control over fueling, ignition, and auxiliary systems for engines ranging from 1 to 12 cylinders. It adeptly handles modern engine technologies such as drive-by-wire throttles and Variable Valve Timing (VVT). A key advantage is its ability to directly drive up to 6 passive or 12 smart coils without the need for external power modules or amplifiers. Advanced drive-by-wire strategies offer precise throttle control coupled with robust plausibility checking for enhanced safety. Constructed with durability in mind, the EMU Black features a custom CNC-machined aluminum enclosure with an IP60 rating, safeguarding it in harsh environments. It operates reliably within a wide temperature range, from -40 to +105°C (AECQ100 Grade 2), and includes internal reverse battery protection and immunity to voltage transients per ISO 7637 standards. Connectivity is facilitated by two FCI automotive connectors (1x24 and 1x39 pin) and USB for PC communication. The EMU Black boasts an extensive list of inputs and outputs, including 6 protected low-side injector outputs (5A), 6 ignition outputs (7A, 15A peak) supporting passive and active coils, and 6 protected auxiliary low-side outputs (5A). It also offers a full bridge output up to 7A, which can function as separate outputs or dual H-Bridges. The system includes 9 protected 0-5V analog inputs, 2 EGT inputs for K-Type thermocouples, and 2 knock sensor inputs. Additionally, it has built-in support for wideband oxygen sensors (Bosch LSU 4.2 and 4.9), a 4-bar MAP sensor, and a Flex Fuel ethanol content sensor, reducing the need for external components.
