The Mahle LX1478 is an Original Equipment (OE) replacement engine air filter engineered to keep your BMW's intake system clean. Its primary function is to capture dust, dirt, soot, and other airborne particles before they enter the combustion chamber, thereby reducing engine wear and maintaining optimal performance and fuel efficiency. Mahle claims their air filters can filter out up to 99.9 percent of dust, soot, and tire wear particles, ensuring a long service life even under extreme environmental conditions. This air filter is manufactured in Austria and is built to match the fit and function of the original equipment part. Regular inspection and replacement are recommended, with FCP Euro suggesting replacement every 30,000 miles, or more frequently in dusty environments, to avoid symptoms of a clogged filter such as reduced fuel efficiency, engine misfires, and potential long-term engine damage. Mahle has a long history dating back to 1920, initially focusing on light-alloy pistons and later expanding into air and oil filtration systems due to the need to protect engines from contaminants. Today, Mahle components are found in half of all automobiles produced globally.
