The Toyota 4E-FTE is a robust 1.3L turbocharged inline-4 engine, derived from the 4E-FE and known for its suitability for performance tuning. This engine features strengthened connecting rods and lower compression pistons compared to its naturally aspirated counterpart, allowing for increased boost pressures and power output. The 4E-FTE also incorporates a harmonic damper for improved torsional vibration control. Available components for the 4E-FTE include various multi-layer steel (MLS) head gaskets with different bore diameters and thicknesses, such as Cometic and SCE Spartan options. For enhanced durability and performance under demanding conditions, ARP head bolt kits featuring ARP2000 fasteners with a tensile strength of 220,000 psi are offered. Additionally, high-strength connecting rods are available, including Pauter 4340 forged X-beam rods with ARP 2000 or ARP CA625+ bolts, and Scat forged H-beam rods. OS Giken offers a twin-disc clutch and flywheel kit designed for the Toyota Starlet EP82 with the 4E engine, capable of handling up to 575 ft-lbs of torque. This kit includes a full face/segmented unsprung metallic clutch disc and a flywheel.
