The Scott Drake export brace is a crucial chassis reinforcement component designed specifically for 1964 1/2 - 1966 Ford Mustangs. This heavy-duty steel brace, featuring deep draw stamping with proper ribbing, was originally implemented on export models and later adopted by Carroll Shelby for his 1965-1967 Shelby Mustangs due to its effectiveness in combating unibody twisting and flexing. By tying the shock towers to the cowl area, this export brace significantly reduces chassis flex, thereby preventing potential shock tower fatigue and cracking. This direct-fit replacement ensures a trouble-free installation on the specified Mustang models and is constructed from heavy gauge steel for maximum rigidity and originality. The product is finished in black. It is important to note that while this brace is specifically designed for 1964-1966 Mustangs, the historical application of export braces is complex. Early versions had even hole spacing on the cowl side, making them incompatible with standard production cars. Later designs, like this one, were intended to fit uneven hole spacing applications. While this specific brace is listed as fitting 1964-1966 models and can be a direct fit, older genuine Ford braces or previous reproductions often required modifications for 1967-1970 models, and care should be taken to ensure proper fitment for concours correctness.
