Overview

The Edelbrock F4B is a Small Block Ford intake manifold designed to increase horsepower and torque. It is a clone of the Cobra intake and offers improved performance over stock cast-iron manifolds, particularly above 3500rpm.

Early versions of the F4B featured a 4-holer carburetor intake versus two oval inlets and differed in thermostat housing configurations. Later models, from 1966 onwards, had a flat manifold surface, while earlier ones featured a recess for the thermostat. Some early F4Bs also lacked provisions for throttle linkage bolt down.
Show original supplier description
The Edelbrock F4B intake manifold is engineered to enhance performance for Small Block Ford engines, offering a blend of vintage aesthetics and improved power. This dual-plane manifold is a reproduction of the classic Cobra intake, known for its ability to increase horsepower and torque. Distinguishing features between F4B iterations include the carburetor mounting pattern, with early models utilizing a 4-holer setup and later ones featuring two oval inlets. Thermostat housing configurations also varied, with early units (pre-1966) incorporating a recess in the manifold and later models (1966 and newer) having a flat manifold surface with the recess in the housing. Additionally, some very early F4B manifolds did not include throttle linkage bolt-down provisions and were found with either HolleyAFB mounting holes or just four carb stud provisions. While the F4B provides a performance uplift over stock cast-iron manifolds, especially in the mid-to-high RPM range (above 3500rpm), it may yield less low-end torque. Some enthusiasts find it outclassed by modern designs like the Edelbrock Performer RPM, which addresses flow balance issues present in the original Cobra design. However, the F4B remains a popular choice for those seeking a period-correct look and solid performance gains for street applications. This intake manifold was notably used on the 1979 Mustang Pace car and was re-issued in the 1980s with the Ford Motorsport logo. It is generally recommended for street applications and can reportedly run to 6000 RPM and beyond.
