Inspired by racing, the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 is Firestone's ultimate sport performance tire, designed for drivers of sports cars and sporty coupes. The Firehawk Indy 500 features wide shoulders and increased stiffness for more confident cornering. Its advanced tread design includes a pulse groove channel that effectively reduces hydroplaning, while also contributing to a shorter stopping distance on wet surfaces—claimed to be 20% shorter than competitors. Internally, the tire utilizes twin steel belts and a polyester cord body for responsive handling, cornering stability, and a smooth ride. The use of a single strand of spirally wound steel for the beads ensures a rounder profile for a better fit to the wheel, further enhancing handling and ride quality. While optimized for summer conditions, user reviews suggest excellent wet and dry traction, cornering stability, and steering response. However, it is noted to have limited performance in deep snow, ice, and light snow conditions, making dedicated winter tires advisable for colder climates.
