The 27WON FK8 Front Mount Intercooler is a high-performance upgrade designed to address the thermal limitations of the factory intercooler in the 2017+ Honda Civic Type R (FK8). Heat is a primary factor in performance degradation, and the stock intercooler quickly becomes a bottleneck under demanding driving conditions, restricting flow and limiting heat dissipation. This intercooler significantly increases core dimensions, being 41% taller and 47% thicker than the OEM unit. Through extensive testing and simulations, 27WON has optimized the design to reduce pressure drop from approximately 2.05psi to 1.24psi. This reduction in pressure drop means the turbocharger works less to push air through the core, contributing to quicker spool times and improved overall engine performance. The efficiency of the intercooler is directly tied to both pressure drop and temperature drop, and this design aims to minimize both. The intercooler's cast end tanks feature internal flow control fins, developed using CAD simulations to ensure optimal airflow distribution across the entire core volume. This design approach maximizes the use of the larger intercooler core, leading to significantly improved cooling efficiency. Unlike designs limited by bolted flanges, the 27WON FMIC incorporates the end-tank inlet pipe for a more gradual distribution of airflow. This intercooler is designed to withstand more abuse than the OEM unit, maintaining its cooling performance even after aggressive testing, expelling over 62 degrees more temperature than the OEM version. Installation is designed to be straightforward with all necessary hardware, brackets, and crash bar seals included, facilitating a painless process with an estimated install time of 3 hours and a difficulty rating of 2/5. It is compatible with 2017+ Honda Civic Type R models, including right-hand drive and non-USDM versions.
