The Integrated Engineering FDS intercooler represents a revolution in boost cooling performance for VW MK7/MK8 and Audi 8V/8Y 2.0T and 1.8T Gen 3 engines. It features an extra-large, 425mm x 621mm x 70mm bar & fin core, providing 137% more volume than the stock unit. This substantial increase in core size, combined with IE's Flow Distribution System (FDS™) technology, ensures efficient cooling, drastically reduces intake air temperatures (74% lower than stock), and combats power-robbing heat soak. The intercooler is engineered to be capable of supporting 600+ horsepower applications and is designed to increase overall horsepower and torque. It boasts a 9% lower pressure drop compared to stock, outperforming smaller front-mount designs. The robust construction includes in-house CNC machined aluminum cast end tanks and hand TIG welding performed in the USA, with rigorous pressure testing to ensure reliability and a boost-leak-free connection. Installation is designed as a bolt-in, hassle-free process that fits in the OEM location without requiring modifications for most applications. However, it is noted that 2022+ MK8 and 8Y vehicles may require minor trimming of the plastic radiator shroud. Additionally, due to the massive size and tight tolerances of this intercooler, some aftermarket radiators may not fit. The FDS technology utilizes precisely shaped fins to force airflow evenly across the entire intercooler core, maximizing its efficiency. This design, along with the increased core volume, leads to lower intake air temperatures and reduced pressure drop, ultimately contributing to increased horsepower and torque. The unit is CFD optimized for peak performance.
