Ford 351W Mid-Dress Crate Engine

The ATK Engines HP09M is a Ford 351W mid-dress crate engine designed to deliver enhanced performance with 300 horsepower and 377 lb-ft of torque. It is built upon a seasoned OE roller block, compatible with models from 1987-1995, and boasts a 351 cubic inch displacement. This engine features a robust set of internal components including an OE crankshaft with a 1-piece rear main seal and 28oz balance, OE connecting rods, and hypereutectic pistons achieving a 9:1 compression ratio. Moly rings ensure durability, while a hydraulic roller camshaft with specs of 220/224 at 50, .512in/.512 ex lift, and a 112 LSA contributes to its performance profile. A double-roller timing chain provides reliable timing, and it is fitted with OE #E7TE cast iron cylinder heads featuring 1.77-inch intake and 1.46-inch exhaust valves, paired with stamped steel 1.6 ratio rocker arms. Completing the mid-dress package, the HP09M includes a rear sump truck oil pan, a Melling standard volume oil pump, and an external balance 28oz harmonic balancer. A Pioneer external 28oz, 164-tooth flexplate/flywheel is included. For induction, it features a Weiand Stealth dual-plane intake manifold and a Pro-billet distributor with an upgraded melonite gear. A later model LH inlet water pump is also part of the assembly. ATK recommends specific components to achieve optimal performance, including a Quick Fuel 670 CFM vacuum secondary electric choke carburetor, a mechanical fuel pump rated at 80-110 GPH, Autolite #24 spark plugs, and 8mm spark plug wires. For operation, use conventional non-synthetic 10W30 oil and a Wix or K&N oil filter. Timing should be set to 34-36 degrees with the vacuum port plugged, spark plugs gapped at .035”, and requires 91+ octane fuel. A stock stall converter is recommended, and the exhaust should utilize 1 5/8-inch headers.
