Ford 9-inch Rear End Housing

The Strange Engineering Ford 9-inch rear end housing is designed as a robust, semi-floating, drop-out axle solution for GM A-body vehicles equipped with rear coil spring suspension. Engineered for superior rigidity, the center housing features .141-inch mild steel construction with a heavy-duty .282-inch thick face plate and internal gussets that provide critical support for the 3-inch OD, .250-inch wall mild steel tubing. The assembly is professionally jig-welded to ensure precise alignment and sealing integrity. The housing is equipped with one-piece billet steel upper control arm mounts that resist flexing under load and adjustable lower control arm mounts, which allow for fine-tuning rear tire leverage. Note that adjustable mounting holes for the lower control arms are not offered in 1973-1977 applications. Additionally, when using aftermarket upper control arms, the vertical distance from the axle center line to the mount center is 6.00 inches; some aftermarket components or spherical bearings may require modification to clear the housing, and it is recommended to contact the control arm manufacturer for compatibility confirmation prior to ordering. This unit includes forged steel housing ends and integrated fluid management ports, including a vent to prevent pressure build-up and dedicated fill and drain plugs for simplified maintenance and ring gear inspection. Brake line tabs are included on the tubes to streamline installation.
