Front Disc Brake Conversion Kit

The EMPI 22-2983 Bolt-On Front Disc Brake Kit provides a straightforward solution for converting your Volkswagen Type 1 Bug or Karmann Ghia from drum brakes to disc brakes. This kit is specifically designed for models from 1968 through 1977 for the Type 1 Bug and 1968 through 1974 for the Karmann Ghia, provided they are equipped with stock drum type spindles. The conversion process is simplified with heavy-duty cast brackets that attach directly to your vehicle's existing stock drum type spindles, eliminating the need for extensive modifications. The kit includes disc brake rotors with the standard 4x130mm VW lug bolt pattern and 14mm threads, along with disc brake calipers and pads. You will need to use your existing wheel bearings and seals, or purchase new ones, and all necessary bolts and washers for installation are provided. Note that all bearing races must be pressed into the rotors. It is crucial to note that this kit is intended for VW Type 1 Ball Joint vehicles with stock drum type spindles. It WILL NOT WORK on Super Beetles or vehicles equipped with dropped spindles. The kit requires the use of DOT3 brake fluid exclusively. Furthermore, the installation of brake kits and brake lines is extremely important and should be performed by a trained mechanic to ensure proper function and avoid brake failure. This includes ensuring correct line length relative to wheel travel and steering angle, verifying lines are free-flowing and contamination-free, and properly bleeding all calipers.
