These gas springs provide a reliable method for supporting and lifting compartment covers and hatches. They are pre-loaded with a force (P1) that indicates the load they can support when fully extended, and require at least that force to compress. The spring stores additional force (P2) to assist in opening the lid next time. For optimal lubrication and damping, they are typically installed in pairs with the rod ends down.
