When performing axle shaft service, replacing inexpensive wear items such as axle shaft seals is crucial. These seals prevent external contaminants like dirt and moisture from entering the bearings while also retaining essential lubricating grease. This preventative measure ensures the longevity and proper functioning of your axle bearings. The CV (Constant Velocity) axle assembly is responsible for transferring torque and rotational power from the transmission to the wheels. It accommodates suspension movement and steering articulation through CV joints at both ends. The design allows for changes in angle and length as the vehicle navigates turns and uneven terrain. Symptoms of a failing axle shaft seal can include clicking or popping noises during turns, vibrations while driving, and visible grease leaks around the CV joint, often due to a torn or cracked CV axle boot.
