The IE H-beam connecting rods are engineered for strength and reliability in performance builds, supporting up to 600 horsepower and torque. Constructed from forged 4340 chromoly steel with ARP 2000 rod bolts, these rods are optimized for a high power-to-weight ratio, making them suitable for aggressive street builds. Each set is balanced to +/- 1 gram and honed to exacting tolerances of 250 millionths of an inch on Sunnen machinery, ensuring dimensional accuracy and quality control. These connecting rods feature an H-beam design for a blend of lightness and strength, ideal for daily driven cars. They are compatible with tanged style rod bearings, which help prevent bearing spin and reduce the risk of failures. An optional rifle drilling upgrade is available, which provides forced oil lubrication to the wrist pin bushing, significantly extending its life and reducing wear. This upgrade is highly recommended for street cars driven for extended mileages. Fitment is specific: these 144x20mm connecting rods will only work with VW/Audi engines that utilize factory pistons with 20mm wrist pins on factory non-tapered rods. Many 1.8T 20V (06A) and 2.0T FSI (EA113) engines use a tapered rod, requiring specific aftermarket pistons or alternative rod options. This set is also compatible with stroker crankshafts and 20mm wrist pin stroker pistons for 2.0L or 2.1L conversions. Crucially, professional installation of these connecting rods and subsequent ECU tuning is essential. Connecting rod failure can result from oil starvation, improper ECU tuning, incorrect bearing clearances, or installation errors. Proper engine assembly by a trained technician is paramount for the longevity of the rods.
