The FM Happy Meal clutch and flywheel kit from Flyin' Miata is engineered for 1990-05 Miata models, compatible with both 1.6 and 1.8 liter engines. This comprehensive kit includes a Flyin' Miata clutch, a lightweight flywheel, a clutch switch override, pilot bearing, and release bearing. Customers can select between two clutch specifications. The Level 1 clutch is rated for 318 lb-ft of torque at the crank, making it suitable for stock engines or Stage 1 modifications. It offers near-stock pedal pressure and smooth engagement. For higher performance needs, the Level 2 clutch provides a 353 lb-ft torque rating at the crank and features a steelback copper woven organic friction material. Both clutch levels utilize the same disc material, with variations in the pressure plates accounting for the increased torque capacity and pedal feel of the Level 2 option. The lightweight flywheel, weighing approximately 11.75 lbs for the disc and plate assembly (totaling about 22 lbs for Level I), may introduce minor, harmless drivetrain noise during closed-throttle deceleration. Flyin' Miata recommends bypassing the starter interlock on the clutch for easier starting and to reduce wear on the thrust bearing, providing a clip for this modification. Installation also presents an opportunity to replace rear main seals, with a recommended tool to ensure proper installation. Note that 5-speed transmissions require a transmission input gasket, while 6-speeds do not.
