It features a more efficient motor that draws less amperage and produces more torque due to its gear reduction design.

The XDP HD Gear Reduction Starter (New) Wrinkle Black XD258 offers a faster, stronger, and more durable solution for starting your 2003-2006 Dodge Pickup equipped with a 5.9L Diesel Engine, even in extreme conditions. Its design surpasses the factory starter's capabilities, providing the power needed to turn over aggressive diesel engines. This starter utilizes a more efficient motor that draws less amperage while delivering increased torque through its gear reduction design. Each unit comes pre-tested and features a durable wrinkle black finish for enhanced corrosion resistance and aesthetics. The starter is rated at 3.6 HP, 2.7 KW, and provides 260 Ft-Lbs. of torque with a 3.75:1 gear reduction. Installation is intended as a direct-fit replacement. However, the manufacturer notes that high amperage draws during cranking can stress all components in the circuit, including cables, terminals, and batteries. It is recommended to regularly check and service these components, ensuring voltage at the starter remains above 11V DC during cranking. While not required, heat shields are suggested for added protection.
