As a common wear item on E39 suspensions, its failure can manifest as clicking and rattling noises over bumps, and a significant decrease in cornering stability. This particular sway bar link is made in Turkey and is classified as Heavy Duty. This part is specifically designed for the BMW 540i (1997-2003) and M5 (2000-2003) models, including various Sedan and Wagon body styles with the 4.4L V8 M62 Gas engine or the 5.0L V8 S62 Gas engine. It is confirmed to fit Automatic and Manual RWD transmissions for these vehicles. Signs of a failing sway bar link include clunking over bumps, clunking during turns, and excessive body roll. Replacement is recommended to restore proper handling. It is advised to always replace sway bar links in pairs. According to customer reviews, replacement of worn sway bar end links can fix low-speed clunking noises and does not require an alignment.
