This seal acts as a barrier between the headlight housing and the car's body, effectively preventing the ingress of moisture, dust, and road debris. By ensuring a tight seal, it helps preserve headlight clarity, prevent fogging or condensation, and protect the electrical components within the housing from damage. This specific gasket is intended for the left upper position of the headlight assembly. It features tabs for secure installation. Over time, the material can become brittle, and these tabs may break, necessitating replacement. Maintaining the condition of this seal is essential for the longevity and proper function of your BMW's headlights. Symptoms of a failing seal include moisture or condensation inside the headlight, visible cracks or deformation of the gasket, and dust or dirt buildup on the lens. This Genuine BMW headlight gasket is compatible with the following BMW E39 models: 528i (Sedan and Wagon, 1997-2000, note for 2000 models: up to 9/2000 production date) and 540i (Sedan and Wagon, 1997-2001, note for 2000 models: up to 9/2000 production date).
