The SPELAB Heavy-Duty Bar-and-Plate Intercooler is engineered to withstand the extreme pressure and heat generated by high-boost 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins diesel engines, addressing the limitations of the factory plastic-tank intercooler. This upgrade features robust, indestructible cast aluminum end tanks capable of handling 100+ PSI, replacing the stock tanks that are prone to failure under pressure. Mated to these end tanks is a massive 3.35-inch bar-and-plate core, which provides a significant increase in thermal capacity compared to the stock 2.48-inch unit. The intercooler boasts high-flow 3.5-inch inlet and outlet connections, ensuring maximum airflow volume, reducing pressure drop, and enabling quicker spool-up and improved performance for large single or compound turbo setups. This competition-grade intercooler functions as a substantial thermal sponge, effectively absorbing temperature spikes. This leads to a dramatic reduction in Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs) and Intake Air Temperatures (IATs), which is crucial for engine longevity and performance, especially when towing heavy loads or running aggressive tuning. By delivering cooler, denser air to the intake manifold, the SPELAB intercooler helps prevent heat soak during demanding conditions and allows for maximized tuning potential. The intercooler is designed as a direct-fit replacement for 2003-2009 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks equipped with either the 5.9L or 6.7L Cummins diesel engines. This includes specific fitment for the 2003-2007 5.9L models and the 2007-2009 6.7L models, including Ram 4500 and 5500 variants for the 6.7L.
