Its internal gear tooth forms are optimized for strength and improved oil film retention, while the gear package itself is smaller yet more durable than competitive designs. When one wheel loses traction, the Wavetrac cam device creates internal load, maintaining drive on the gripping wheel and preventing the vehicle from acting like an open differential. Constructed from premium materials, the internal gears are crafted from high-strength 9310 alloy steel, and the differential bodies are machined from case-hardened steel billet. The product comes with a transferable, Limited Lifetime Warranty. This specific Wavetrac differential (18-309-170WK) is designed for the following applications: Porsche 944 models from 1986 onwards (including turbo models). It also fits Audi front applications, specifically the Coupe GT, 4000 Quattro, and Quattro Coupe with the 016/093 5-speed manual transmission. Please note that Porsche 944 turbo and turbo S models equipped with an OEM LSD and the trans oil cooler option will require conversion to an open-diff style drive gear (part number 016.115.165A) and a rollpin (N.100.792.01). Additionally, a bearing spacer for the small end side of the differential is included, which is only needed on some models.
