The Wavetrac Limited Slip Differential utilizes a unique, patent-pending design to enhance traction in challenging conditions. Its precisely engineered wave profiles on the side gears and preload hub automatically increase the bias ratio under load, providing improved grip without negatively impacting drivability. This system effectively acts like two differentials in one, offering a higher bias ratio only when necessary and seamlessly reverting to its nominal setting. Constructed for durability and performance, the Wavetrac differential features internal gears made from high-strength 9310 alloy steel and a body machined from case-hardened steel billet. The internal gear tooth forms are optimized for strength and superior oil film retention, while the gear package is smaller yet more durable than competitive designs. Special attention has been given to the side gear/axle interface, maximizing material thickness in this critical area for high-power applications. This differential offers customizable performance through interchangeable friction plates. It comes standard with carbon-fiber bias plates for optimal all-around performance. Additional plates made from materials with varying friction coefficients are sold separately, allowing users to fine-tune the differential's response based on applied torque load. This mechanism uses the axial load from the differential pinions to influence the friction plates, thereby tuning the bias ratio. The Wavetrac Limited Slip Differential (Part# 10.309.180WK) is designed to fit VW Mk4 models with a 5-speed 02J transmission, including the Golf/GTI, Jetta, and New Beetle with engines such as 1.8T, 2.0L, 12v VR6, and TDI. An important note for 2004-2005 models: those built after March 2004 may have different ring gears, and customers should contact sales staff prior to ordering.
