Description
The King HP Main Bearing Set MB5013HP is engineered for demanding performance applications, including drag racing, street, and strip use. These main bearings utilize King's advanced Alecular™ bi-metal structure, which consists of a robust aluminum/tin/silicon alloy top layer bonded to a high-strength steel backer. This unique construction provides exceptional resistance to surface migration and extrusion, even under extreme loads and brief periods of metal-to-metal contact.
Developed specifically for applications that experience high loads for short durations, such as drag racing, the HP series features a top layer that is harder than traditional Babbitt. This design enhances durability and protects crankshaft journals by offering superior embedability to guard against foreign debris. The Alecular™ material offers significant advantages over typical tri-metal Babbitt, including a much higher tolerance for bearing squeeze and wear (up to .010” vs. .0005”), a Vickers hardness of 40 for better load resistance, a thicker top layer for improved macro-particle embedability, and a nearly 30% greater temperature threshold (450ºF vs. 350ºF).
Beyond material benefits, the King HP Main Bearings offer enhanced oiling capabilities critical for high-RPM operation. They feature greater eccentricity, a chamfered surface designed to accommodate large radii crankshafts, and large, chamfered oil holes complemented by 1/2 grooving. These design elements work together to ensure superior oil flow and lubrication under demanding conditions.
This bearing set is compatible with a wide range of LS-based V8 engines, specifically fitting 1997-2013 models with displacements of 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L, 6.0L, and 6.2L. The compatibility extends to numerous specific engine codes including LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, L99, LSA, L92, L9H, L94, L76, L77, LY6, L96, LFA, LZ1, LY5, LMG, LMF, LH6, LC9, LY2, L20, L33, LQ4, LQ9, LR4, LM7, L59, LS4, LH8, and LH9. They are suitable for use with both factory and aftermarket nodular cast iron crankshafts, as well as aftermarket options.
