By significantly increasing the core size and employing their unique Flow Distribution System (FDS) technology, this intercooler ensures consistently lower intake air temperatures than OEM and competing units, as supported by dyno charts. The FDS system uses precisely shaped fins within the end tanks to guide airflow across the entire core, maximizing cooling efficiency and minimizing pressure drop. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software was utilized by IE's engineering department to optimize the end tank design and the FDS system, aiming for minimal pressure drop and maximum flow. This focus on reduced pressure drop means the turbocharger doesn't have to work as hard to achieve boost levels, allowing for more usable boost pressure to be delivered to the engine. The intercooler is constructed with cast and machined end tanks, precise TIG welding, and a dense bar-and-plate core, all tested on an in-house station to ensure readiness for installation. It offers a perfect OEM replacement fit with minimal modification, utilizing CNC machined mounting points to reuse factory locations. Installation requires a standard toolset, some torx bits, and technical expertise, with IE recommending a review of their install guide and video. The kit includes the intercooler core, all necessary hardware, and an installation manual. While the power increase is dependent on the vehicle's tune and turbo setup, the IE FDS Intercooler is tested to support over 740hp and is most beneficial on vehicles with Stage 1 software or higher, and is necessary for big turbo setups. This intercooler is designed for specific Audi B9 and C8 chassis vehicles including the S4 (2017-2023), S5 (2017-2023), A6 (2018-2023), A7 (2018-2023), SQ5 (2018-2023), A4 (2021), A5 (2017-2021), and A4 Allroad (2017-2021). However, it is not compatible with late-model year vehicles equipped with active grille shutters. Buyers should verify if their facelift B9.5 model has this feature before ordering.
