IE Spec Mahle Forged Piston Set, 82.5mm Bore

The Integrated Engineering IE Spec Mahle Pistons are custom-designed, high-performance components engineered for VW and Audi 2.0T TSI engines, specifically those with EA888 Gen 1, 2, and 3 platforms (2008+). Developed in partnership with Mahle, these pistons deliver unmatched strength and longevity for high-performance engine builds when paired with compatible connecting rods. Key features include a 22mm wrist pin for use with IE connecting rods, available in either 82.5mm (stock) or 83mm bore sizes. The 83mm option increases displacement to 2008cc and requires the engine block to be bored and honed to precise specifications for optimal fitment and performance. The pistons utilize Mahle's proprietary 142P alloy, which offers strength comparable to 2618 alloy while maintaining the low-expansion characteristics of 4032 alloy, allowing for tighter piston-to-wall clearances for quieter, smoother OEM-like operation. Construction highlights include a Grafal anti-friction skirt coating to reduce friction, noise, and wear, promoting extended piston life. The ring land areas are hard-anodized to prevent micro-welding, and oil squirter notches are integrated for interference-free operation. The included Mahle performance piston rings feature a barrel-faced top ring and a 3-piece oil ring designed to minimize drag, reduce friction, and increase power. Tight ring-to-groove clearances are maintained to reduce blow-by, further enhanced by an accumulator groove machined beneath the top ring land to reduce pressure and virtually eliminate ring flutter. These pistons are engineered with compression ratios optimized to closely match the factory 2.0T TSI engines (9.5:1 for EA888 Gen 1 & 2, and 9.3:1 for EA888 Gen 3) to prevent knocking issues inherent in direct-injection systems. It is important to note that these pistons require aftermarket connecting rods with a non-tapered 22mm small-end.
