IGN1A Smart Coil

The Link IGN1A Smart Coil is a high-performance inductive ignition coil designed with an integrated ignitor and an external heat sink for efficient operation. It delivers a powerful 103 mJ of energy per spark, coupled with an extended spark duration of 2.9 ms, surpassing the performance of typical capacitive discharge systems. This design is intended to optimize combustion efficiency. Key specifications for the IGN1A Smart Coil include a minimum output voltage of 40,000 volts and a maximum output voltage of up to 81,000 volts. It operates with an output energy of 103 mJ and a spark duration of 2.9 ms. The coil has a primary resistance of 0.5 ohms (not directly measurable) and a primary inductance of 4.8 mH (not directly measurable). Its secondary resistance is 8,500 ohms, with a secondary inductance of 22.5 H and a turns ratio of 71.1. The maximum current draw is 19 amps, with a maximum battery voltage of 17 volts, and a nominal dwell time of 3.0 ms. Installation requires HEI-type plug wire ends and boots, and the coil is compatible with most brands of HT leads. The wiring involves a specific pinout: Pin A receives the ignition signal from the ECU, Pin B is for logic ground connected to ECU ground, Pin C is the spark wire ground connected to the cylinder head, Pin D is for power ground connected to the battery negative, and Pin E is the 12-volt power input. The coil's dwell sequence initiates upon receiving a 5-volt signal at Pin A, and it fires when this voltage drops to zero, a signal similar to LSx coils but requiring slightly more trigger current.
