The Eldor ignition coil is a crucial component for maintaining the efficiency and performance of your BMW's engine. When a coil fails, it disrupts the proper burning of the air/fuel mixture by the spark plug, which can cause a cascade of problems affecting the engine and exhaust systems, including components like catalytic converters and oxygen sensors. While misfire codes might indicate an ignition coil issue, they can also stem from other sources. Visual inspection of the coil and boot may reveal signs of failure, or coils can be swapped between cylinders to diagnose a misfire. It is often recommended to keep spare coils on hand. This specific Eldor ignition coil (part number 12138616153) is the current replacement for numerous BMW 6- and 8-cylinder engines manufactured from the late 2000s onwards. BMW has updated its part numbers over time, but this part has been approved to work across a range of engines including N20, N55, S55, N51/N52, M54, S54, and N62. It replaces previous BMW part numbers such as 12137594937. The coil is sold individually and includes the necessary boot and connector.
