Overview

The ACDelco Ignition Knock (Detonation) Sensor is a GM Original Equipment replacement component. It monitors the engine for pinging or spark knock and sends signals to the engine control module (ECM) to adjust timing. This helps prevent engine damage caused by pre-ignition.

By detecting these abnormal combustion events, the sensor sends signals to the Engine Control Module (ECM) which then adjusts ignition timing to prevent potential engine damage from pre-ignition. This sensor is a GM-recommended replacement part, ensuring it meets the same performance, durability, and service life standards as the original component in your GM vehicle. Other names for this part include Knock Sensor and 965. It is specifically designed for 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines. The sensor works by creating a voltage signal based on the vibrations caused by erratic air/fuel mixture combustion. A customer review indicated that aftermarket sensors produced significantly less AC voltage (about 50% less) compared to this genuine GM sensor, potentially leading to low voltage service engine lights.
