The Hondata Coil Pack Retrofit (CPR) allows for the integration of modern 'coil on plug' individual ignition coils into older Honda vehicles with D, B, F, and H series engines that utilize a distributor-based ignition system. This upgrade replaces the stock coil and igniter with an electronic circuit capable of driving igniter-type coils, offering increased spark energy for a larger plug gap and fewer misfires. Each coil fires only once per two engine revolutions, functioning as a non-wasted spark system to keep the coils cooler. Key requirements for installation include a Hondata S300 system (sold separately) and four Honda coil packs, with part number 30520-PVF-A01 being the recommended option for optimal fitment. While other Honda coils with the larger plug style from 2005-2009 may work, the specified part is noted as the best length. The CPR unit itself is typically installed near the ECU within the vehicle's cabin. Important notes for installation and operation include the mandatory use of resistor spark plugs. Coil retention methods vary; B16A, B18C, and F22A engines may utilize the stock plug cover, while other engines will require an alternative, not-supplied retention method. The distributor must be retained as it provides the necessary timing signals for the system. This is considered a race product, and users should be aware that cranking times may increase compared to a stock ignition setup.
