Integrated Engineering 83mm Bore Piston Set

The Integrated Engineering (IE) Spec Mahle Pistons are custom-engineered for VW and Audi 2.0T TSI high-performance engine builds, specifically for the EA888 Gen 1, 2, and 3 engines (2008+). These pistons are available in 82.5mm (stock bore) or 83mm (+0.5mm overbore) sizes, with the latter increasing displacement to 2008cc. The 83mm option allows for precise block boring and honing for optimal fit and longevity. Constructed from Mahle's proprietary 142P alloy, these pistons offer a unique blend of low-expansion characteristics similar to 4032 alloy and the strength approaching 2618 alloy. This allows for tight piston-to-wall clearances, ensuring quiet and smooth OEM-like operation. Key features include Grafal anti-friction skirt coating for reduced wear and noise, phosphate coating for break-in lubrication, and hard-anodized ring landings to prevent micro-welding. The pistons also incorporate factory-style oil squirter notches for direct fitment without modification. These pistons are designed with compression ratios closely matching factory specifications: 9.5:1 CR for EA888 Gen 1 & 2 (2008-2014) and 9.3:1 CR for EA888 Gen 3 (2015+). This optimization is crucial for the direct injection system to prevent knocking. They include high-strength 22mm German steel wrist pins, requiring a compatible aftermarket connecting rod with a non-tapered 22mm small-end. IE offers suitable connecting rod options. Tight ring-to-piston clearances minimize blow-by, further improved by accumulator grooves machined beneath the top and second ring lands. These grooves collect blow-by gasses, reducing pressure and virtually eliminating ring flutter for a secure seal.
