The Forge Motorsport Intercooler is a high-performance upgrade engineered specifically for the Hyundai Kona N, building on the success of their previous designs for the i30N and Veloster N platforms. This front-mount intercooler features a robust bar and plate construction and is designed to improve vital airflow by hand-forming alloy sheet metal and necessary brackets to mount an intercooler with 83% larger volume in the OE position. This placement maintains a frontal surface area increase of over 27% without negatively impacting other vehicle cooling components. The engineers at Forge Motorsport have also integrated a hand-fabricated ducting system to ensure maximum air passes through the intercooler's face. The inlet and outlet diameters have been increased to 65mm, representing a 27% increase in volume over the OEM boost tract for improved flow. The kit also includes a custom hard pipe with a 64mm diameter, replacing the factory 50mm pipe, to support maximum performance gains on high-tune vehicles. The intercooler and associated piping are finished in Forge's standard black textured powder coat for enhanced longevity. Extensive dyno testing, conducted with a development vehicle featuring a Stage 1 ECU calibration, Forge intake, and turbo inlet adaptor, demonstrated significant improvements. Before the Forge intercooler installation, the vehicle produced 348.3HP and 459 NM of torque. After installation, the Forge Motorsport intercooler achieved gains of 21 BHP and 28 NM of torque at peak, with substantial increases noted from 3000 RPM. The new intercooler also drastically improved thermal management, keeping inlet air temperatures around 27°C, compared to the stock intercooler's 48°C, even after multiple pulls. This is crucial for preventing ECU timing retards due to high temperatures, which can reduce performance and potentially lead to premature engine wear, especially on tuned vehicles. Installation is estimated to take approximately 3 hours, depending on the installer's competency and available tools.
