The MercRacing Upgrade Heat Exchanger is engineered to address the limitations of stock Audi cooling systems, particularly for 3.0T and 4.0T engines experiencing high intake temperatures under boost or with performance modifications. This upgrade is crucial for protecting your investment when adding a tune or upgraded pulley, as it provides sustained, high-capacity cooling. Its multi-pass design, combined with high-density fins, allows coolant to stay on the cooling stage longer, resulting in dramatically lower and more consistent intake air temperatures. This translates to less power loss during hard driving or repeated accelerations, offering a significant performance advantage over the factory unit. Constructed entirely from aluminum and hand TIG-welded, this unit boasts approximately a 1-gallon coolant capacity, substantially more than the OEM component. Key features include a crash bar mount with included brackets, an integrated bleed port for easy air purging, and drain holes on the bottom header to prevent water accumulation. The lower coolant pipe is also movable to either the left or right side for easier installation. Available finishes include black powder coat or polished/raw aluminum. Important fitment notes include that vehicles equipped with a factory dynamic steering cooler will need to relocate this unit; the addition of a Compact Fluid Cooler is recommended for this. Vehicles other than the B8/B8.5 S4 may not be able to utilize the provided air diverter plates due to fitment variations. The unit includes mounting brackets, hardware, silicone hoses, and clamps.
