The EQT IS38+ Turbocharger is designed as a direct, pre-assembled replacement for your factory IHI IS20 or IS38 turbocharger, compatible with VW/Audi MQB 1.8T/2.0T EA888.3 engines. It utilizes original size compressor and turbine wheels, making it an ideal upgrade for vehicles like the GTI, GLI, A3, Golf R, and S3. To increase reliability over OEM units, this turbo features an upgraded 360° thrust bearing system, providing optimal longevity and support, especially under heavy loads. Included with the turbocharger is all necessary installation hardware, including gaskets and O-rings. While a direct fit for many applications, specific tuning requirements vary. For MQB GLI, GTI, and A3 models upgrading from an IS20, tuning is required to utilize the IS38 turbocharger. For MQB Golf R and Audi S3 models, tuning is not strictly required but highly recommended to maximize performance. The product page also notes that you will need to reuse your current factory or aftermarket diverter valve. Bundling with an EQT Staged Tune is available for a nominal cost to optimize performance.
