The turbocharger includes a 360° thrust bearing system for enhanced longevity and support under heavy loads.

The EQT IS38+ Turbocharger offers a reliability upgrade and increased performance for VW/Audi MQB 1.8T/2.0T vehicles. This unit is designed as a direct replacement for factory IHI IS20 or IS38 turbochargers and features original size compressor and turbine wheels. The upgraded 360° thrust bearing system enhances longevity and provides better support under demanding operating conditions, addressing common OEM reliability concerns. Included with the EQT IS38+ are all necessary gaskets, O-rings, and installation hardware. Customers can opt for a pre-calibrated wastegate to simplify installation. However, a new diverter valve is not included; the factory or aftermarket diverter valve must be reused. The turbocharger is compatible with all EA888.3 powered MQB vehicles, including the Golf GTI, Golf R, Jetta GLI, Audi A3, and Audi S3. For MQB GLI, GTI, and A3 models upgrading from an IS20, tuning is required to utilize the IS38 turbocharger. While tuning is not strictly required for MQB Golf R and Audi S3 models, it is highly recommended to maximize performance. Various staged tunes are available, with specific hardware and fueling requirements depending on the tune and fuel used (e.g., E30, E85). For Golf GTI, GLI, and A3, an upgraded High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) is needed for any ethanol blend, and a Low Pressure Fuel Pump (LPFP) upgrade is suggested, especially for E85 tunes. For Golf R and Audi S3, an upgraded HPFP is required for E85 tunes.
