The GM Genuine Parts 12573572 is an LS6 intake manifold, a performance upgrade designed to replace the stock LS1 intake on various GM vehicles. Identified by GM part numbers like 12573572 and 12561184, the LS6 intake manifold offers a significant performance improvement for LS-based engines. This manifold is compatible with a wide range of GM LS engines, including the LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, and various displacements such as 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, and 6.2L. It is a popular modification for vehicles like the Corvette (C5 from 1997-2004), Camaro (1998-2002), Firebird (1998-2002), GTO, and trucks equipped with LS engines. The LS6 intake manifold is known for its high-flow design, which contributes to increased horsepower and torque compared to the standard LS1 manifold. Installation of the LS6 intake manifold is a common performance enhancement. However, for 1998-2000 F-body models (Camaro and Firebird), the factory EGR system must be removed to accommodate the LS6 intake, which can be an obstacle in states with strict emissions testing. Beginning in 2001, GM revised camshaft timing, allowing for the elimination of EGR on LS1 and LS6 engines. When installing this manifold, it's important to note that the LS1 generally responds favorably to other performance upgrades such as tubular headers and aftermarket exhaust systems, which can further amplify the gains from the LS6 intake swap.
