It features distinct rectangular intake ports. Originally developed for the 5.7L LS6 engine in the '01 Corvette Z06 package, this manifold also became a popular upgrade for earlier LS1 applications. Installing the LS6 intake manifold on '97-00 Corvettes and '98-00 Firebird and Camaro models is a well-documented modification. The swap is known to yield noticeable horsepower increases, often in the double digits, especially when paired with other performance enhancements like headers and upgraded exhaust systems. It is important to note that retrofitting this LS6 intake manifold onto '98-00 F-body LS1 engines may require addressing the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. These earlier LS1 applications typically require an EGR valve for emissions compliance, and the LS6 manifold itself does not have provisions for it in its original design. Depending on local emissions regulations, owners may need to remove or modify their EGR system or source a modified manifold with an EGR port. Performance testing has shown that the LS6 intake manifold can provide an increase of approximately 9-10 horsepower at the rear wheels on a stock LS1 engine. Further gains can be achieved through ECU tuning, potentially adding another 15-20 horsepower and 20 lb-ft of torque when optimizing fuel and spark curves.
