This unit supports two ref sync modes, including a 12-tooth crank setting for engines up to the Series 6 RX7 and a 36-2 mode for dedicated race engines requiring higher timing accuracy.

The MoTeC M2R Engine Management System is a dedicated ECU designed specifically for twin-rotor engine management. Built on the foundation of the proven M4 ECU, it incorporates specialized software that restricts its operation to two-rotor configurations while retaining the full tuning functionality, upgrades, and initial free lambda and logging features of the standard M4 system. Technically, the M2R features advanced ignition modes 140 and 141, which allow for the independent control of four individual ignition coils with rotary split functionality. Users have access to two primary ref sync modes: a 12-tooth crank mode for engines up to the Series 6 RX7, and a 36-2 mode intended for dedicated race engines where high-precision timing calculations are necessary. The unit leaves one output available for auxiliary functions like fuel pumps or cooling fans; however, if the mode 102 wasted spark leading setup is selected, a second auxiliary output becomes available for further configuration.
