Manual Rack and Pinion Conversion Kit

The Unisteer 8001120-01 is a manual rack and pinion conversion kit specifically engineered to revitalize the steering and handling of early 1967 Ford Mustangs. This kit replaces the original steering box, aiming to eliminate steering slop and the need for constant corrections, providing a more direct and responsive driving experience. This precise duplication ensures effective elimination of bump steer and contributes to significantly improved handling characteristics. The rack is pre-mounted to a robust one-piece bracket that serves as a direct replacement for the tubular cross member located behind the front suspension. The pinion is intentionally offset on the mounting bracket, positioning it closer to the driver-side frame for a more straightforward connection to the steering column. Compatibility notes: This kit is designed for early 1967 Mustangs, as slight steering differences emerged mid-year. It is not compatible with later model Mustangs or Cougars, which require different kits. The kit works with Big Block and Small Block cars and has been tested with Stock Manifolds and Hooker Super Comp Headers, though other headers may present installation challenges. A mini starter is required, and modifications may be necessary for Mustangs equipped with Dart Heads or other aftermarket heads that alter header fitment.
